Privacy on whale-watching.tours

This site sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and has no accounts, forms or newsletters. Here is exactly what does happen when you open a page.

The short version

We do not set cookies. We do not run analytics of any kind — no page-view counter, no heatmaps, no advertising pixels, no fingerprinting. There are no user accounts, no contact forms, no comment fields and no newsletter, so there is nothing for us to store about you.

Two things do reach other companies when you use the site, and both are described in full below: the booking widget you may choose to load, and the booking link you may choose to click.

What a page loads

Loads from What it is When
whale-watching.tours The page, its stylesheet, its images and one small script Always
whale-watching.tours The typefaces (Cormorant Garamond, Karla, Space Mono), self-hosted Always
widget.getyourguide.com The GetYourGuide booking widget script Only when a booking box is about to come into view

The pages are static HTML. The only script of our own is /assets/main.js, a few kilobytes that sort tables, close menus, run the nearest-port finder and decide when to load the booking widget. It stores nothing — no cookies, no local storage, no session storage.

The typefaces are served from this domain. Nothing is requested from Google Fonts or any other font service, so opening a page does not tell a third party that you did.

The booking widget

Some pages show a live availability or "most booked" box from GetYourGuide, our booking partner. That box needs GetYourGuide's own script, which is loaded from widget.getyourguide.com.

It is deliberately lazy. The script is not in the page when it arrives: our own script watches for the widget box and requests GetYourGuide's script only when that box comes within roughly 300 pixels of your screen. Leave a page without scrolling to a booking box and nothing is requested from GetYourGuide at all.

Once loaded, the widget runs under GetYourGuide's own privacy policy: whatever it does, including any cookies set in its frame, is covered by their terms rather than this page.

Booking links

Every partner link on this site points directly at a GetYourGuide page. There is no redirect on our domain, no tracking script in between, no logging of your click by us, and no interstitial page.

The destination carries four parameters so that the booking is attributed to this site: partner_id (our partner code), utm_medium, cmp (the campaign name) and currency, which sets the currency of the page you land on. They identify the site, not you. No information about you is added, and the links are marked as sponsored so they pass no search authority.

If you book after following one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We never see your name, your email, your booking or your payment details — GetYourGuide reports only that a booking happened.

The "near me" finder

The nearest port finder asks your browser for your location. That request is made by your browser, to you, and you can refuse it.

If you allow it, your coordinates stay on your device. The list of every port on the atlas is already in the page, and the distance calculation runs in your browser. Your position is not sent to us, not sent to anyone else, and not stored anywhere — reload the page and it is gone. We never learn where you are, only that somebody, somewhere, opened the page.

Server logs

The site is static and is served by a hosting provider. Like every web server, it keeps short-lived technical logs of requests — IP address, time, the file requested, the browser's user-agent string — which exist so that outages and abuse can be investigated. We do not analyze them to build profiles, do not connect them to anything else, and do not share them. Retention is set by the hosting provider.

Your rights, children, and changes

We hold no personal data about you, of any age, so there is nothing to export, correct or delete. If you believe otherwise, write to team@whale-watching.tours and we will answer. If the way the site works changes — a new embed, a different host — this page changes with it, and the date at the foot shows when.
